One successful pike fishing method is the float-paternoster rig. The rig is shown on the right, it is 'pike-safe' when used correctly. With a palm-sized roach, live or dead, as bait this is a great pike catcher. It is a good method to use when fishing close to snags as the bait is kept in one posititon. A free-roaming bait could wander into the snag and risk loss of the tackle, whilst creating an obvious danger to any pike which took the snagged-up bait. The paternoster shown on the right is designed for fishing with the float visible on the surface as a means of bite indication. However, a similar rig can be fished with the float 'sunken' as shown below, but will then require the use of a drop-off indicator as means of registering a take. There are many other methods to try, for instance free-running leger rigs with deadbaits, drifting and of course lure-fishing. Don't become a one-method pike angler. |
